About the position

The City of Stockton is seeking a Senior Environmental Control Officer to lead and manage various environmental programs within the Municipal Utilities Department. This role involves ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to wastewater and stormwater management, conducting inspections, and providing training and support to staff. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program, Fats, Oils and Grease Control Program, Waste Hauler Program, and Dental Amalgam Program.
• Conduct commercial and industrial inspections and wastewater sampling.
• Manage inspection records and reports, ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Enforce federal, state, and local pollution control laws and regulations.
• Permit new industrial users and review plans and applications.
• Train and develop division employees.
• Provide effective customer outreach and education.

Requirements

• Possession of an Associate of Arts degree or completion of sixty semester units in wastewater technology, chemical engineering, chemistry, physical sciences, or a related field.
• One year of experience in an environmental field, such as analyzing wastewater or operating a wastewater treatment plant.
• Two years of experience in an environmental field for senior level candidates.
• Valid California driver's license.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification within 6 months of hire.
• CWEA Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector Certification within 18 months of hire for entry level; Grade II for journey level; Grade III for senior level.
