About the position

The Senior Environmental Planner will join AECOM's Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) team, focusing on renewable energy projects across the western U.S. This hybrid role involves leading project teams, managing client relationships, and overseeing the preparation of environmental documents, particularly for permitting and entitlement work. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and business development skills, contributing to the growth of AECOM's renewable energy initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee management and preparation of CEQA and NEPA documents.
  • Manage early-stage due diligence efforts for siting renewable energy projects.
  • Project management on mid- to large-sized projects, including developing and tracking project schedules and budgets.
  • Work on environmental documents related to high profile infrastructure projects.
  • Support clients with their entitlement needs for renewable energy applications.
  • Oversee the work of early career staff and mentor others.
  • Act as a quality verifier for technical work products.
  • Contribute to marketing and business development, preparation of proposals, and cost estimates.
  • Attend and present at project and public meetings, preparing meeting materials.
  • Interpret and apply applicable government codes, ordinances, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, environmental science, or related field.
  • 6 years of relevant experience in managing and preparing CEQA and NEPA documents.
  • A valid U.S. Driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in urban planning, environmental science, or related field.
  • 10+ years' experience managing and preparing CEQA and NEPA documentation.
  • Experience with electric transmission and renewable energy projects.
  • Experience as Project Manager on environmental planning and permitting projects.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
