About the position

The Senior Estimator position focuses on commercial electrical projects, requiring expertise in gathering, calculating, and compiling data for hard bid or design/build estimates. The role involves ensuring compliance with various laws and regulations while working closely with subcontractors and vendors to prepare accurate estimates and proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Attend pre-bid reviews and understand the complete scope of work required.
  • Visit construction sites for job walks and meetings.
  • Review and understand all project bid documents.
  • Locate, notify, and send bid information to subcontractors and vendors for quotes on outsourced electrical work.
  • Complete estimate takeoff, using on-screen computer estimating to meet deadlines.
  • Complete change order estimates for awarded projects.
  • Finalize the estimate on time and participate in team review with management on bid day.
  • Evaluate bids of subcontractors and vendors for completeness of scope of work, schedule, specification compliance, or other bid requirements.
  • Prepare value analysis in anticipation of the customer's best interest.
  • Develop the scope of work narrative.
  • Assist field operations with the estimate after bid award and at project closeout.
  • Prepare proposal letters including scope of work, inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications.
  • Meet proposal due date schedules.
  • Anticipate requirements of producing estimates with little information given.
  • Provide consistent follow-up for feedback on bid/proposal, and report results to management.
  • Enforce compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, safety standards, and report variances to Chief Estimator.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Construction, Engineering, or related field; equivalent combination of technical training and work-related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of five years of commercial electrical construction and conceptual estimating experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and computerized on-screen takeoff programs.
  • Experience with Accubid or similar software; current use of McCormick is preferred.
