About the position

The Senior Estimator for Energy Storage/BESS at Primoris Renewable Energy is responsible for delivering accurate and comprehensive estimates for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities. This role involves managing all aspects of estimate development, including scope, schedule, cost, safety, and quality. The Senior Estimator serves as the primary point of accountability for both conceptual and final hard-bid estimates, ensuring that all proposals meet client expectations and are completed on time. The position requires strong communication skills to present estimates to leadership and clients, as well as the ability to mentor junior estimators.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate projects in accordance with Primoris Policies and Work Procedures.
  • Manage assigned projects from inception to contract execution, collaborating with Business Development to ensure proposals meet client expectations.
  • Lead proposal kick-offs and manage key deliverables from engineering, estimating, and pre-construction teams.
  • Conduct site visits and evaluate site investigation reports, communicating key findings to relevant teams.
  • Prepare work to be estimated by gathering subcontractor and vendor proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documents.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Review and confirm quotations from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals and related documents.
  • Analyze regional labor rates and per diems for estimates.
  • Travel to project sites to understand construction sequences and site conditions.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting and analyzing information and trends.
  • Develop Value Engineering ideas to drive project design and economics.
  • Generate and review project schedules and hold stakeholders accountable for deliverable dates.
  • Facilitate communication between Primoris and Client tax groups to finalize tax strategy for projects.
  • Coordinate with Estimating Manager and contracts team to ensure alignment of scope and estimates.
  • Perform risk reviews and develop risk registers with mitigation strategies.
  • Generate proposal term sheets with assumptions and clarifications.
  • Review estimating takeoffs provided by the Estimating team and Engineering.
  • Present estimates to leadership and provide supervisory support for team estimates.
  • Assist in generating and submitting proposal packages for review.
  • Ensure long lead procurements and engineering agreements are executed to preserve project schedules.
  • Assist in contract review processes and communicate with clients on redlines.
  • Transition information from Pre-Construction to Construction teams, including contract terms and estimates.
  • Maintain technical knowledge through educational workshops and technical publications.
  • Develop and mentor an Estimating team for complex projects.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant Construction/Project Management and/or Estimating experience.
  • College graduate with a relevant degree.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (WinEst, B2W or similar), take-off software (On-Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
  • Project Management proficiency in scheduling, cost management, and client management.
