About the position

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) is seeking a Senior Estimator to join its Design Engineering Services group. This role involves estimating costs for large, complex infrastructure projects and collaborating with multi-disciplined design teams to enhance project delivery. The Senior Estimator will leverage their expertise to ensure accurate cost assessments, mentor junior estimators, and contribute to innovative design solutions that meet client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and determine the most efficient means and methods to estimate the cost to construct.
  • Develop complete estimates for very large, complex jobs.
  • Create logistic plans for material handling.
  • Self-motivated, able to meet deadlines working independently.
  • Train and mentor younger estimators in the preparation of estimates.
  • Review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or V partners to determine data completeness and procedures; aid in resolving differences in bid items.
  • Use recognized engineering techniques and procedures to conduct estimates and adhere to standard company policy.
  • Handle major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
  • Stay current on various trends and developments such as new equipment, methods, and procedures in the industry.
  • Prepare special studies or reports required by the unusual nature of some bid items or conditions.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or construction-related technology, OR extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above.
  • At least 10 years' experience in an estimating/pre-construction related role.
  • Strong attention to detail; strong communication, interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability and willingness to learn and teach.
  • Broad knowledge and ability to understand project scheduling, cost control, specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with InEight Estimate (HardDollar) preferred.
  • Possess strong mathematical and computer skills.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidates must possess a strong work ethic.
  • Work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, costs and techniques.
  • Knowledge of construction safety and current federal & OSHA Requirements.
  • Must be willing to travel as the job requires.
