About the position

The Senior Construction Estimator will lead the estimation process for complex multi-family residential projects, ensuring competitive and accurate bid packages. This role is crucial for driving project success from the office, mentoring junior estimators, and supporting a collaborative team environment. The estimator will work closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to identify cost-saving opportunities and maintain high standards of quality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for multi-family residential projects up to $100 million.
  • Review architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and RFPs to determine project scope and develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and determine costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring full coverage of project scope and competitive pricing.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to support value engineering initiatives and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Mentor and develop junior estimators, ensuring accuracy, skill growth, and best practices within the estimating team.
  • Manage bid timelines, conduct bid reviews, and present estimates to leadership.
  • Stay updated on market trends, material costs, and labor rates, particularly for New England's multi-family construction market.
  • Participate in post-bid reviews to refine estimating practices and continuously improve the team's efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction estimating, specifically with multi-family projects.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, or PlanSwift) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of New England building codes, regulations, and market pricing relevant to multi-family construction.
  • Proven experience in mentoring junior estimators, with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring high-quality, accurate estimates.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, providing clear and effective communication.
