LF Driscoll Healthcare is seeking a Senior Estimator to serve as the second-in-command to our Chief Estimator, specifically to support our operations in New York. This role is pivotal in developing, creating, and preparing construction cost estimates for a variety of projects during their early development stages. The Senior Estimator will also provide ongoing support to the project team with updated cost information throughout the pre-construction phase of these projects. Given the nature of the work, the position will require the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that all estimates are accurate and comprehensive. The responsibilities of the Senior Estimator include reviewing plans and architectural drawings, preparing quantity take-offs for assigned healthcare industry projects, and ensuring a thorough review of all plans and drawings. The estimator will identify any omitted items and ensure they are accounted for in the overall estimate package. Building and maintaining effective working relationships is crucial, as the estimator will solicit subcontractor bids for projects that total between $100 million and $150 million annually. This involves obtaining 3-5 bids for each trade and supplier group, reviewing and analyzing these bids for compliance with project specifications, and discussing any questions or discrepancies with subcontractors. In addition to these tasks, the Senior Estimator will follow approved estimating practices to ensure the most complete estimates are produced, meeting financial objectives. Staying current with trends and changes in construction codes is essential, as is the ability to utilize appropriate software programs for calculating, recording, and tracking estimates. The estimator will also attend client meetings to address questions and resolve issues related to pricing and estimates, ensuring client satisfaction throughout the process. Other responsibilities include performing change order pricing, conducting site visits, delivering bids, and collaborating with teams on specific bids. The estimator will determine material and labor requirements, prepare itemized lists, compute cost factors, and prepare estimates that are used for planning, organizing, and scheduling work. Conducting special studies to develop standard hour and related cost data, as well as consulting with clients and vendors to discuss and formulate estimates, are also key components of this role. The Senior Estimator will organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and formal processes to support cost estimating, analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs, and provide recommendations for improving cost estimating procedures to minimize discrepancies in the future.
