About the position

The position involves assisting the Assistant Director of Convention Services in managing and coordinating activities within the Convention Services department. The role focuses on ensuring the smooth execution of conventions, functions, and events, requiring effective communication, planning, and operational management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate Convention Services activities for complex convention and event groups.
  • Plan and develop programs, agendas, and services according to client requirements.
  • Communicate group specifications and history to operational departments.
  • Partner with senior leadership to implement process improvements for client satisfaction.
  • Accurately forecast group revenues according to guidelines.
  • Promote the proper use of function space and maximize group revenue.
  • Assist with training and development initiatives for Convention Services staff.
  • Oversee contracted group room blocks including cutoffs and attrition.
  • Create external communications for assigned convention groups.
  • Host planning meetings, site inspections, and pre-convention meetings.
  • Promote client satisfaction through smooth execution of conventions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with 6 years of experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related area; OR a Bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major with 3 years of experience in event management or related area.
  • Advanced knowledge of conventions and meeting industry trends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in hospitality management or related fields.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
