About the position

The Senior Events Manager at Marriott Long Beach Downtown is responsible for overseeing complex events from preparation to execution, ensuring high-level service and seamless transitions between sales and service. This role involves managing customer experiences, maximizing revenue through upselling, and acting on behalf of the Director of Event Management in their absence.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all event documentation and coordinate with Sales and property departments.
  • Handle complex events and ensure high-level service throughout all phases.
  • Recognize opportunities to maximize revenue by upselling and offering enhancements.
  • Support the Director of Event Management in their absence.
  • Serve as the primary contact for event planners on property after turnover.
  • Lead pre-event and post-event meetings for assigned groups.
  • Identify operational challenges and work with staff and customers to solve them.
  • Manage customer budgets to maximize revenue and meet needs.
  • Oversee customer experiences from file turnover through post-event phase.
  • Conduct pre- and post-event meetings to review group needs and feedback.
  • Manage group room blocks and meeting space for assigned groups.
  • Adhere to all standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Celebrate successes and recognize team contributions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with 2 years of experience in event management or related area.
  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major with no work experience required.
