About the position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Senior EVSE Engineer to join our Electrical team in Plymouth, Michigan. This role presents an exciting opportunity to advance your career in Safety Testing and Evaluation within the Transportation Technologies team. As a Senior EVSE Engineer, you will be responsible for independently conducting testing and evaluation of various products to ensure compliance with U.S., Canadian, and international product safety standards. This includes writing detailed reports and maintaining effective communication with clients throughout the testing process. You will engage in both on-site and off-site evaluations, requiring a thorough understanding of national codes and standards, as well as the ability to read and interpret schematics and manufacturing instructions. Your role will involve identifying the necessary test instruments and equipment, following established test plans, and performing a range of core tests including rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, and more. Additionally, you will mentor less senior technical personnel, provide sales support, and communicate project status and test results to clients and management. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct on and off site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standards.
  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the equipment under test (EUT).
  • Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing under the project scope.
  • Follow established test plans and set up and operate EUT.
  • Perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Conduct thorough construction reviews and document results.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards, including core tests such as rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, and more.
  • Mentor less senior technical personnel.
  • Supply information for quotes regarding project length, site needs, rental equipment, samples, and applicable standards.
  • Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
  • Provide specialized expertise in one product category and maintain advanced product knowledge.
  • Develop and set up test plans and operate standard test equipment including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and more.
  • Use hand tools to build/calibrate test fixtures and follow sample handling procedures.
  • Move equipment as needed through the facility and properly package samples for shipment.
  • Provide sales support by attending client visits and communicating project status and test results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of manufacturing systems.
  • 4+ years of directly related experience with EVSE equipment, including testing and project management experience.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in both verbal and written formats.
  • Physical dexterity to perform clerical and technical functions inherent to the position, including bending, stooping, turning, twisting, reaching, balancing, and mobility to travel to other work sites.
  • Experience with NEC, UL2202, UL2231, UL2251, UL2594 and the Canadian equivalents.
