About the position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Senior EVSE Engineer to join our Electrical team in Plymouth, Michigan. This role presents an exciting opportunity to advance your career in Safety Testing and Evaluation within the Transportation Technologies team. Our team is recognized for its expertise in automotive, battery, energy storage, and related transportation industry testing and certification. As a Senior EVSE Engineer, you will be responsible for independently conducting testing and evaluation of various products to ensure compliance with U.S., Canadian, and international product safety standards. This includes writing detailed reports and maintaining effective communication with clients throughout the testing process. In this position, you will conduct both on-site and off-site evaluations of products, determining their compliance with applicable standards. You will need to read and interpret national codes and standards, understand schematics and manufacturing instructions, and validate project scopes. Your responsibilities will also include identifying and locating necessary test instruments, following established test plans, and performing thorough construction reviews. You will conduct a variety of core tests, including but not limited to rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, and more. Additionally, you will mentor less senior technical personnel and provide specialized expertise in specific product categories. The role requires you to develop and set up test plans, operate standard test equipment, and ensure proper sample handling procedures. You will also be responsible for providing sales support, communicating project status and test results to clients, and documenting engineering judgments as necessary. This position is designed for individuals who possess both the mental and physical capabilities to perform the outlined duties effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct on and off site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s).
  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the equipment under test (EUT).
  • Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing under the project scope.
  • Follow established test plan and set up and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Conduct thorough construction review and document results.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards, including core tests such as rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, and more.
  • Mentor less senior technical personnel.
  • Supply information for quotes such as length of project, site needed, rental equipment, samples, and standards that will be used.
  • Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
  • Provide specialized expertise in one product category and maintain advanced product knowledge.
  • Develop and set up test plans and operate standard test equipment including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and more.
  • Follow sample handling procedures, ensuring that samples are logged in and out of the system and properly packaged for shipment.
  • Provide sales support by attending client visits and communicating project status and test results to clients, sales personnel, and management.
  • Identify, document, and recommend engineering judgments within policy guidelines.
  • Perform other work as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of manufacturing systems.
  • 4+ years of directly related experience with EVSE equipment, including testing and project management experience.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in both verbal and written format.
  • Physical dexterity to perform clerical and technical functions inherent to the position.
  • Experience with NEC, UL2202, UL2231, UL2251, UL2594 and the Canadian equivalents.
