About the position

The Senior Field Engineer at Zachry Construction Corporation plays a crucial role in supporting and managing field operations, ensuring that work activities are accurately reported to project controls. This position requires a proactive approach to assist superintendents and foremen in executing projects according to the specified drawings and specifications. The Senior Field Engineer will interface with various stakeholders, including craft supervision, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and project team members, to facilitate smooth project execution. The role demands a strong commitment to safety and quality, as the engineer will participate in daily and weekly safety meetings and ensure compliance with safety standards throughout the project lifecycle. In addition to managing field operations, the Senior Field Engineer will be involved in several essential functions, including participating in the Estimate Turnover Meeting, performing quantity takeoffs, and assisting in converting estimates into controlled budgets. The engineer will coordinate and review submittals, manage subcontractors and suppliers, and assist in the development and monitoring of work plans alongside project engineers and superintendents. Accurate quantity and cost reporting is vital, and the engineer will be responsible for reporting results to superintendents and foremen, as well as assisting with change order pricing and project documentation. The position also involves maintaining accurate records of project drawings and specifications, participating in the project close-out process, and finalizing cost report quantities for payment applications. The Senior Field Engineer will also assist in preparing and maintaining As-Built drawings and perform miscellaneous duties as required. Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Estimate Turnover Meeting
  • Perform quantity takeoffs
  • Assist in converting the estimate to a controlled budget and set up job files
  • Coordinate and review submittals
  • Attend and participate in daily and weekly safety meetings
  • Manage quantities and perform quantity takeoffs, as required
  • Procure and schedule subcontractors and materials to ensure crews' needs are met
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers with the support of staff, superintendents, and foremen
  • Assist in work plan development and monitoring with project engineer, superintendents, and foremen
  • Manage quantity and cost reporting as accurately as possible, report results to superintendents and foremen
  • Assist with change order pricing
  • Participate in the project document control process
  • Assist in documentation between ZCC and owner, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Maintain accurate record set of project drawings and specifications
  • Participate in the project close-out process
  • Finalize cost report quantities used for payment applications and project reports
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of As-Built drawings
  • Perform miscellaneous/other duties as required

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain airport security clearance
  • 3-5 years' recent heavy highway, road, and bridge construction experience (prefer a prior internship with a heavy civil contractor)
  • Medium to large project experience ($10M+) is required
  • Experience in supporting multiple disciplines related to heavy civil projects
  • Experience with Hard Dollar and SAP systems preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs, such as Excel and Word
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
