About the position

The Senior Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing exceptional customer support through on-site installation, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex laboratory equipment and systems. This role involves direct interaction with customers, ensuring they are trained in the operation and maintenance of their systems, and acting as a liaison for both administrative and technical matters. The position requires a strong technical background and the ability to work independently in a remote field environment, primarily in Indiana and Michigan.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, validate and repair PerkinElmer and/or multivendor instrumentation at customer sites.
  • Provide troubleshooting, repair, and qualification services for customers, including warranty services within a prescribed time frame.
  • Communicate service offerings including training, support, software, laboratory services products, and field upgrades.
  • Partner with customers to understand their analytical workflow and applications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to installation, warranty, and service agreement documentation standards.
  • Contribute to account profitability through efficient execution and service delivery.
  • Perform timely uploads and downloads of required service data to ensure the integrity of service systems.
  • Maintain assigned assets including tools, test equipment, telecommunication equipment, and service parts inventory.
  • Proactively develop technical and soft skills to enhance PerkinElmer's value proposition to customers.
  • Enhance product quality by reporting improvement opportunities via the quality notification process.
  • Seek higher-level certification through participation in company-sponsored training and development offerings.
  • Complete all administrative tasks including time reporting and assigned training.
  • Maintain training and compliance in health and safety, security, environmental, and operational aspects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline with 5 years of direct experience in laboratory equipment repair; OR an Associate Degree with 7 years of experience; OR a High School Diploma with 10+ years of experience.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding customer service skills with the ability to listen and interpret client requests.
  • Aptitude for technical and practical matters.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions and understand technical bulletins and service manuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Microsoft 365.
  • Detailed knowledge of analytical equipment and laboratory environments.
  • Ability to travel by air, vehicle, and other means as required by business needs.
  • Vendor issued certification on relevant laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.
