About the position

As a Senior Field Service Engineer at ABB, you will play a crucial role in energizing the transformation of society and industry towards a more productive and sustainable future. Your primary responsibility will be to provide deliverables for paralleling switchgear systems, ensuring they can operate in various modes such as open transition, closed transition, peak shave, load shed, load add, and balance of plant. You will lead site deliverables for customers, maintain schedules, document changes in scope, and manage site delays while interfacing with the Project Manager. In this role, you will lead a commissioning team that includes switchgear engineers, power delivery field engineers, generator technicians, and electrical contractors. You will maintain a close interface with the product engineering team to ensure project scope, system sequence of operation, and field modifications are adhered to. Your responsibilities will also include the completion of project and daily reports, which consist of short duration safety plans, field service reports, redlines, and method of procedure documentation. Compliance with all safety requirements is paramount, and you will be expected to travel at least 80 percent of the time to fulfill your duties effectively.

Responsibilities

• Provide deliverables for paralleling switchgear systems that can perform various modes of operation.
• Lead site deliverables for customers, maintaining schedules and documenting changes in scope.
• Document site delays and interface with the Project Manager.
• Lead a site commissioning team consisting of switchgear engineers, power delivery field engineers, generator technicians, and electrical contractors.
• Maintain interface with the product engineering team for project scope and field modifications.
• Complete project and daily reports including safety plans, field service reports, redlines, and method of procedure documentation.
• Ensure compliance with all safety requirements.
• Travel at least 80 percent of the time.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 8 years of field commissioning experience as a site lead engineer preferred.
• Field experience and technical training can be accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Experience with PLC programming and interface to Paralleling Switchgear Design.
• Knowledge of PLC, RTU, DCS, and SCADA systems with a focus on power delivery equipment and paralleling switchgear operations.
• Understanding of SCADA, HMI, or GUI operator interfaces and ability to create graphic interfaces for customer use.
• Fundamental understanding of hardware network design and various communication protocols such as Control Net, Modbus, and ProfNet.
• Ability to interpret protective relay settings in relation to the system.
• Deep understanding of distributed energy resources including diesel generators, turbines, solar, wind, hydro, and battery storage systems.
• Knowledge of synchronization hardware such as Woodward Governor and ability to read system one lines and power three lines.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in data center and healthcare applications.
• Familiarity with various communication protocols and their applications in power delivery.
