About the position

The Senior Field Service Engineer at Cognex is responsible for providing technical support and solutions for complex industrial machine vision systems. This role involves on-site modifications, installations, and troubleshooting, serving as the primary contact for customers on technical matters. The engineer will also mentor junior staff and ensure high operational quality of Cognex systems while maintaining customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Develop on-site modifications to electrical, optical, and mechanical systems to meet performance specifications.
• Plan and perform on-site engineering assignments including installation, startup, testing, and fault diagnosis.
• Act as the first point of contact for customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.
• Interpret customer needs and coordinate with Cognex departments for resolution.
• Provide training and mentorship to new Field Service Engineers and customers.
• Conduct assessments of partners to maintain expected standards and quality.
• Review and approve operational quality of Cognex equipment and instruct customers on system operation and maintenance.
• Provide detailed reports on service work and product performance.
• Demonstrate safety consciousness in equipment handling and procedures.
• Stay current with product technology and attend necessary training courses.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4-6 years of relevant technical experience in Industrial/Manufacturing/Field Service environments.
• High-level knowledge and experience in Java scripting for data formatting and communications.
• Strong CAD capability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Excellent time-management and proactive communication skills.
• Ability to handle difficult customer situations and escalate when necessary.
• Demonstrated ability to independently complete technical analysis on complex systems.
• Valid Driver's License without restriction.
