About the position

The Senior Finance Manager-Cloud and Artificial Intelligence Engineering position at Microsoft is a pivotal role within the Margin Strategy and Investment Optimization (MSIO) organization. This role focuses on driving cloud and AI capacity, ensuring margin excellence, and optimizing resource allocation across a vast engineering portfolio. The successful candidate will act as a trusted finance advisor to engineering leaders, influencing strategic decisions related to expense management and resource allocation, while fostering collaboration across various teams to align investments with engineering priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Finance and Engineering teams to manage Microsoft internal team's usage of the Azure Cloud platform for R&D spend, driving efficiencies and delivering insights.
  • Provide strategic leadership to top Engineering and Finance leaders to enhance operating leverage through resource allocation and investment optimization.
  • Drive process excellence by continuously assessing the overall health of the business and identifying opportunities, risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Analyze resource allocation and workforce planning to understand the connection between resource allocation and overall financial performance.
  • Own, maintain, and improve resource allocation across Engineering teams globally, publishing executive-grade monthly resource summaries and delivering resource reviews with Finance leaders.
  • Leverage analytical frameworks and best practices to identify trends and deliver insights for greater efficiencies in resource allocation and investment spend.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 4+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field.
  • OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 2+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field.
  • Proven ability to influence and impact without authority, operate in ambiguity, and solve difficult problems in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of presenting complex financial issues to non-finance executives.
  • Proven interpersonal and cross-group collaboration skills, with the ability to drive simplicity within a complex environment.
  • Excellent technical skills, particularly in Excel; Power BI and SQL skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing complex financial models and strong quantitative analysis and forecasting skills.
