About the position

The Senior Finance Manager for OpCo Accounting at Reynolds American is responsible for overseeing capital project accounting, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and optimizing tax benefits related to fixed asset depreciation. This role involves collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, managing the monthly general ledger closing process, and leading a small team to maintain high performance within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with project managers, engineers, and finance representatives to understand capital projects.
  • Provide guidance on capitalization requirements and accounting impacts under GAAP.
  • Segment capital costs to optimize tax benefits of fixed asset depreciation in the SAP system.
  • Evaluate tax law changes and their impact on asset capitalization and depreciation.
  • Own the Property Management SOX process and assist in designing SOX controls.
  • Review depreciation and spending forecasts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Interpret and apply IFRS and Group accounting policies as needed.
  • Assess impairment and accounting issues for fixed assets.
  • Manage the monthly general ledger closing process related to property management.
  • Coach and train staff to ensure a high-performing department.

Requirements

  • CPA or MBA required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 8+ years of experience in Accounting.
  • Strong accounting and business acumen.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to challenge the status quo.

  • Prior experience within a Public Accounting firm.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
