About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting optimal decision-making within the organization by performing professional financial analysis. This position is responsible for ensuring that all financial information generated is accurate and timely, contributing to the overall mission of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. The Senior Financial Analyst will consistently demonstrate support for the organization's Vision, Mission, and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to team efforts, and showing respect and compassion for patients, their families, fellow employees, and all others associated with the institute. In this role, the Senior Financial Analyst will lead financial analysis efforts, which include complex modeling, projections, reports, and presentations utilizing financial and encounter reporting tools and data. The analyst will assist in the development and updating of the organization's Long Range Financial Plan model, which may involve scenario modeling and evaluation of projected operating performance, liquidity, and leverage. Additionally, the analyst will assist in treasury functions such as cash management, investment management, and debt compliance, providing key support and analysis during the annual budget preparation process. The Senior Financial Analyst will also perform financial risk and care/cost variation analysis, employing advanced statistical techniques. Oversight of financial and market analysis on various internal initiatives and external business development opportunities will be part of the responsibilities. Continuous self-education through industry readings, conferences, and other forums on critical financial and healthcare trends is expected. The analyst will identify and implement areas for improvement, such as increasing data accuracy or decreasing the time spent updating models or reports. Monthly management reports will be prepared to communicate trends and issues impacting the business, and the analyst will mentor and assist in the development of lower-level Financial Analysts. Other duties may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, including leading financial modeling efforts related to various compensation plans to inform plan design and understand the overall financial impact on the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial analysis including complex modeling, projections, reports, and presentations using financial and encounter reporting tools and data.
  • Assist in the development and update of the organization's Long Range Financial Plan model, including scenario modeling and evaluation of projected operating performance, liquidity, and leverage.
  • Assist in treasury functions such as cash management, investment management, and debt compliance.
  • Provide key support and analysis in the annual budget preparation process.
  • Perform financial risk and care/cost variation analysis using advanced statistical techniques.
  • Oversee financial and market analysis on various internal initiatives and external business development opportunities.
  • Educate self through industry readings, conferences, and other forums on critical financial and healthcare trends.
  • Identify and implement areas of improvement such as increasing data accuracy or decreasing the time spent updating models or reports.
  • Prepare monthly management reports and communicate trends and issues that impact the business.
  • Mentor and assist with the development of lower-level Financial Analysts.
  • Lead financial modeling efforts relating to various compensation plans to inform plan design and understand overall financial impact to the organization.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree required; will accept a Bachelor's degree supplemented by additional financial analyst experience in lieu of Master's Degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a seasoned Financial Analyst, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Proven ability to apply critical thinking and analytic skills to formulate recommendations and resolve problems.
  • Excellent statistical and data-modeling skills with the ability to prepare complex financial analysis and interpretations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Exceptional financial acumen, including a firm understanding of the relationship between income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows needed to work on problems of diverse scope where financial analysis requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to develop and/or present content to senior leaders and other groups.
  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple projects, bring projects to completion, develop and monitor timelines.
  • Advanced Excel skills required.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau strongly desired.
  • Proficient in the use of communication and organization tools such as Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Proficient with other financial and encounter-based software programs such as Axiom and DecisionTools (or other statistics, optimization, and Monte Carlo simulation tool) desired.
  • Able to grasp and apply new concepts quickly.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions for difficult assignments.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented, and complex healthcare environment.
