About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst at the University of Pennsylvania plays a crucial role in the Division of Finance, focusing on external financial reporting and performance analysis. This position is responsible for preparing GAAP financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing critical analysis to support executive management and external auditors. Responsibilities

  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP financial statements and related disclosures/footnotes for the University.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP through detailed review of complex accounting rules and their application to multifaceted transactions.
  • Prepares formal analysis for executive management to communicate business trends and issues to the Board of Directors and external auditors.
  • Conducts highly technical accounting/reporting research and recommends critical accounting decisions for concurrence by the Manager/Comptroller.
  • Implements monthly financial accounting closing procedures and related internal controls, assisting in the external audit process.
  • Oversees ongoing financial support to a school or center, preparing routine reports and ad-hoc analysis projects.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field is required.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in financial reporting and analysis, demonstrating knowledge of GAAP.
  • Excellent communication skills and computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Experience with designing and executing strategy-based financial analyses and understanding database structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with high accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
