About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst position at the University of Pennsylvania is a critical role within the Division of Finance, responsible for the University's external financial reporting and performance analysis. This position requires a deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and involves preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements along with related disclosures and footnotes. The analyst will ensure compliance with GAAP by conducting detailed reviews of complex accounting rules and applying them to multifaceted transactions across the University. This role also involves preparing formal analyses that are used by executive management to communicate business trends and issues to the Board of Directors, as well as assisting external auditors in verifying compliance with reporting controls and the accuracy of financial statements. In addition to reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst will perform comprehensive analyses and prepare documents that highlight business trends and issues. This includes evaluating monthly analyses to detect and correct significant accounting errors and recommending corrective actions. The analyst will also engage in accounting and reporting research, preparing position papers that recommend critical accounting decisions for concurrence by the Manager/Comptroller. Monitoring emerging accounting rules from authoritative bodies such as the SEC and FASB is also a key responsibility, as is benchmarking other entities' reporting practices.
