About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) will provide complex budget management, planning, and analysis services within the Office of Chief Financial Officer (OCFO). This role involves overseeing financial activities from inception to close-out, ensuring compliance with financial policies, and providing financial guidance to stakeholders. The position supports various scientific areas and requires collaboration within multidisciplinary teams to facilitate the Lab's mission of pioneering scientific research.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee complex program/project/functional activities from inception to close-out, including budget formulation, execution, projection, and analysis.
  • Produce standard and ad hoc monthly financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and CAS.
  • Provide financial guidance and consultation to stakeholders on budget policies and processes, addressing funding shortfalls and critical financial events.
  • Manage diverse financial variables arising from research contract terms and funding uncertainties, ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines.
  • Evaluate and approve financial transactions, maintaining appropriate documentation and compliance with delegated authorities.
  • Coordinate the proposal process and develop detailed, multi-year proposal budgets for complex programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience as an analyst in a research, academic, or large/complex organization.
  • Experience with GAAP, CAS, and federal regulations related to budgeting and accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial analytics, cost analysis, and project close-out processes.
  • Extensive experience with MS Excel and data analysis functions, including report generation and presentation creation.
  • Proficiency with PeopleSoft financial applications and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Advanced graduate degree.
  • Knowledge of DOE, UC, LBNL, and SPP financial policies and reporting requirements.
  • Experience with contract and grant proposal administration.
  • Understanding of research administration guidelines for federal and non-federal sponsors.
