About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst position at Unum is a senior-level individual contributor role focused on performing moderately complex financial analysis and accounting. The analyst will provide financial insights to inform business decisions, collaborate with subject matter experts, and develop financial policies to enhance operational efficiency. This role requires a strong understanding of financial statements and the ability to mentor less experienced team members while maintaining data integrity and producing actionable financial reports.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and oversee work of less experienced team members.
  • Reconcile and balance accounts related to the specific financial area to maintain control and accuracy.
  • Make recommendations for efficiencies and enhance productivity.
  • Maintain integrity of data in various systems that support financial areas.
  • Analyze financial data and prepare related reports in consultation with business partners.
  • Conduct special studies and lead projects.
  • Utilize resources to solve problems with minimal support.
  • Partner effectively with business management to provide solutions that deliver business value.
  • Communicate issues and recommend effective resolutions to management.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Unum's products, services, and business processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable work experience at Unum required after September 2015.
  • Three to six years of comparable work experience.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and their interactions.
  • Experience navigating change positively.
  • Mastered customer service skills while working effectively with teams.
  • Highly motivated individual able to solve problems independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal guidance.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to link business processes and financial results.

Nice-to-haves

  • SQL experience required; Tableau & Alteryx experience preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with general ledger systems and reporting tools preferred.
  • Proficient in Word and PowerPoint.
