About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst - Post Award position is responsible for conducting financial analysis, preparing budgets, and forecasting to support strategic decision-making within the Molecular and Cell Biology division. This role involves creating financial reports, identifying risks and opportunities, and providing recommendations to improve financial performance. The analyst will monitor expenses, ensure compliance with financial policies, and develop models to enhance operational efficiency, while maintaining strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate year-end budget preparation and conduct variance analysis to ensure accuracy of final year-end reports.
  • Maintain Labor Distribution in PEPT system, managing HR record updates and ensuring compliance with effort reporting guidelines.
  • Conduct quarterly account summary updates and detailed reviews of grant and unrestricted accounts with faculty.
  • Assist faculty in financial forecasting for new hires, equipment, and supply purchases based on current and upcoming budgets.
  • Maintain and update accounts in the CPRIT CGMS system for accurate tracking of grant-related expenses.
  • Conduct re-budgeting exercises for Type 1 and Type 2 accounts, ensuring compliance with grant terms and university policies.
  • Set up new accounts for Type 1 and Type 2 funds, ensuring alignment with project and departmental requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to facilitate collection and analysis of financial data.
  • Conduct quarterly financial reviews with faculty Principal Investigators to support accurate resource allocation.
  • Forecast financial needs for new faculty recruitment, including start-up packages and equipment purchases.
  • Manage a department budget of $25M-$30M, overseeing fund allocation for faculty, staff, and research labs.
  • Prepare operational reports for leadership, identifying cost-saving opportunities and recommending strategies for financial performance improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with financial accuracy and university policies, supporting audits and financing requests.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
