About the position

As a Senior Financial Analyst at Western Digital, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of our Retail HDD business. This position requires a strategic mindset and the ability to work cross-functionally to create comprehensive financial forecasts that span short, mid, and long-term horizons. You will collaborate closely with the Market Intelligence team, Business Marketing, and Sales to develop P&L forecasts that encompass price, volume, mix, and cost considerations. Your insights will be crucial in submitting and discussing weekly Risks and Opportunities based on monthly forecasts, ensuring that our financial strategies are aligned with market dynamics. In addition to forecasting, you will be responsible for analyzing financial execution and providing actionable insights to enhance the performance of the retail HDD business. This includes preparing and driving operational and financial metrics that support key decision-making processes aimed at achieving financial targets. You will conduct in-depth analyses of the retail business's health, focusing on revenue, volume, and margin at both customer and product levels. Your ability to prepare variance analysis will help identify trends and key drivers related to Price, Volume, Mix, and Cost. Your role will also involve influencing pricing and contractual programs by reviewing competitive positioning and strategic initiatives through data-driven analysis. You will ensure accurate accounting of programs by comparing enabled sales pricing with reported pricing in the General Ledger, working collaboratively with accounting, sales, and business management to resolve any discrepancies. Additionally, you will prepare ad-hoc analyses and provide financial expertise on strategic or cross-functional initiatives, maintaining and evolving revenue and margin forecasting models and dashboards. Your contributions will be vital in implementing process and tool improvements, potentially leveraging advanced information systems to enhance our financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Create short (1 quarter), mid (4-8 quarters), and long (3-5 years) term financial forecasts for the Retail HDD business.
  • Collaborate with Market Intelligence, Business Marketing, and Sales to develop P&L forecasts including price, volume, mix, and cost.
  • Submit and discuss weekly Risks and Opportunities based on monthly forecasts with Business Marketing.
  • Prepare and submit a Long-Range Planning (LRP) P&L Forecast for a 3-5 year period in alignment with Market Intelligence and Business Marketing.
  • Analyze financial execution and provide insights to enhance retail HDD business performance.
  • Prepare and drive operational and financial metrics to support key decision-making.
  • Conduct deep dives on the health of the retail business, including revenue, volume, and margin analysis.
  • Prepare variance analysis to identify Price/Volume/Mix/Cost trends and key drivers.
  • Influence pricing and contractual programs through data-driven analysis.
  • Ensure accurate accounting of programs by comparing enabled sales pricing with GL pricing, working cross-functionally to resolve issues.
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis and provide financial expertise on strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain and evolve revenue & margin forecasting models and dashboards.
  • Implement process and tools improvements, potentially utilizing information systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting; a master's degree in business administration or a related field is a plus.
  • 5-7 years of FP&A experience, preferably within the retail or technology sector.
  • Strong financial analysis, financial modeling, variance analysis, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in PowerPoint; experience with ERP and Business Intelligence systems (PowerBI experience is a plus).
  • Excellent business partnering skills and ability to work cross-functionally to influence business decisions.
  • Demonstrated results in improving existing controls and processes, with the ability to troubleshoot and analyze complex problems.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to synthesize information quickly and present findings clearly to an executive audience.
  • Proactive, independent, and self-driven with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
