About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst at Stony Brook Medicine plays a crucial role in the Strategic Analytics team, focusing on the creation, modification, and distribution of complex reports using various Business Intelligence tools. This position is responsible for maintaining the functionality of the Decision Support System, executing data integrations, and ensuring data integrity while collaborating closely with Finance and IT departments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and disseminate complex reports and dashboards that meet business needs.
  • Execute and validate data integrations and results on a recurring basis.
  • Address errors in integration processes in a timely manner.
  • Perform audits of data elements from hospital billing and other sources.
  • Collaborate with finance, HIM, IT, etc. to request corrections of source data when necessary.
  • Participate in data validation during system upgrades and changes to data extract interfaces.
  • Maintain and validate data integrity in the Decision Support System.
  • Create, maintain, and monitor dashboards for audits and investigate variances.
  • Modify revenue rules and update values in the 3M grouper modules to ensure accurate revenue calculations.
  • Reconcile final data to source systems including the GL and billing system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.
  • At least 4 years of progressive related analytical experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Access.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Experience in Business Intelligence/Visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of database relationships and structures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of hospital financial analysis and cost accounting.
  • Experience with accounting concepts, analytics, and service line profitability.
  • Experience with interfacing and integration of data feeds from source systems to hospital Decision Support/Cost Accounting Systems.
  • Experience utilizing hospital Decision Support Systems.
  • Understanding of hospital coding, billing, and reimbursement.
  • Experience in the use of SSIS packages.
