About the position

Koppers, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a skilled financial professional to join our team as a Financial Analyst. This position is integral to our financial planning and analysis (FP&A) function, where you will prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports. You will gain a deep understanding of key business drivers and track essential performance indicators to support our strategic objectives. Your role will involve compiling and analyzing the quarterly and annual budget, assisting in the preparation of financial models and analytical reports that drive business decisions, and contributing to the planning and preparation of financial materials for the Board of Directors. In this role, you will assist project teams with financial guidance, participate in special projects, and complete ad hoc requests. You will ensure the delivery of financial commitments, drive process standardization initiatives, and assist with streamlining financial reporting processes. Supporting business units and corporate departments in managing and forecasting costs and capital projects will be a key responsibility, as well as calculating and validating returns or performing lookback analysis on projects and initiatives. You will also assist in quarterly and annual analysis for earnings releases, Form 10-Q, and Form 10-K filings, and support ad-hoc analysis on business performance. As a superuser for Oracle and other reporting tools, you will play a crucial role in developing and reviewing presentations for business leaders, including the CEO and CFO. Your research and analytical skills will be essential in providing insights that inform strategic decisions. This position requires a proactive approach, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to a non-financial audience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports
  • Understand key business drivers and track key performance indicators
  • Compile and analyze the quarterly and annual budget
  • Help monitor the company's performance against its quarterly, annual and long-range strategic plan
  • Assist in preparing financial models and analytical reports to drive business decisions
  • Contribute to the planning and preparation of certain financial Board materials
  • Assist project teams with financial guidance, participate in special projects and complete ad hoc requests

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or related discipline; CPA or MBA preferred
  • 5-7 years of FP&A experience with a fast-paced public firm or private industrial company; manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong background in financial planning and business analytics
  • Experience with an ERP system; Oracle and/or Microsoft Dynamics Nav preferred
  • Experience with data analytics tools, methodologies and dashboarding / visualization applications
  • Oracle, Smartview, Essbase and/or Board financial reporting experience strongly preferred
  • Wide-ranging knowledge of financial valuation and modelling techniques
  • Technology acumen a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong financial analysis foundation creating forecasts and modeling
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables, excellent time management & prioritization
  • Dynamic communication and team building skills; ability to inspire team members to deliver outstanding results
  • Ability to present financial information to a non-financial audience
  • Strong ambition and an ability to deal with ambiguity while working towards results
  • Proven track record of standing alone and not shying away from difficult or unpopular positions
  • Flexibility and ability to 'shift gears' frequently; as the business continues to evolve, focus will vary from tactical day-to-day operations management to sophisticated long-term strategy considerations
