About the position

The Senior Financial Analyst position at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is designed to support executive decision-making through the execution of complex financial analyses and the preparation and presentation of detailed reports. The analyst will be responsible for preparing periodic financial reports and responding to inquiries from local, state, and federal agencies, as well as other external organizations. This involves analyzing financial accounting and performance data, summarizing reports, and conducting specialized cost studies to provide insights into the institution's financial health. In addition to regular reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst will prepare long-term financial plans and reports for senior management, examining both historical and projected financial data. This analysis will equip senior management with valuable information necessary for informed financial decision-making. The role also includes preparing financial feasibility studies and specialized reports that summarize financial activities, which are essential for strategic planning and resource allocation. The analyst will coordinate and complete institutionally significant, complex projects as assigned, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, policies, and regulations. This may involve recommending adjustments to existing policies or developing new ones to enhance financial operations. Participation in professional associations related to state government, higher education, and financial analysis is also expected, fostering continuous professional development and networking opportunities. Overall, the Senior Financial Analyst will play a pivotal role in the financial management of the university, requiring a blend of analytical skills, financial acumen, and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares periodic financial reports and responds to requests for information from local, state, and federal agencies and other external organizations as needed.
  • Analyzes financial accounting and performance data, summary reports, and specialized cost studies.
  • Prepares long-term financial plans and reports to senior management.
  • Examines historical and projected financial data to provide senior management with valuable data for financial decisions.
  • Prepares financial feasibility studies and specialized reports summarizing financial activities.
  • Prepares and coordinates budgets and budget forecasts for various areas.
  • Interprets and ensures compliance with applicable rules, policies, and regulations, recommending adjustments to policy as appropriate.
  • Participates in professional associations related to state government, higher education, and/or financial analysis and resource allocation.
  • Coordinates and completes institutionally significant, complex projects assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration from an accredited University.
  • Four (4) years of experience in finance or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in the use of PCs and integrated computer systems and related applications.
  • Advanced computer skills in spreadsheet and data manipulation software.
