About the position

The Senior Financial and Budget Analyst at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) plays a crucial role in managing and analyzing financial data to support the university's mission of developing and implementing vaccines and other health innovations. This position involves preparing financial reports, analyzing budget forecasts, and assisting in the development of financial processes and training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain simple and complex spreadsheets to analyze financial data and prepare accurate financial reports.
  • Download, compile, categorize, and manipulate financial data using quantitative models and formulas.
  • Prepare and distribute accurate, concise, and timely financial reports, presentations, and financial information.
  • Analyze budget and financial data to report forecasts for salaries, fringe benefits, indirect cost recoveries, and other areas.
  • Review and analyze financial accounts and expenditures to identify patterns and trends for year-end projections.
  • Assist in preparing future budgets based on historical data and trends.
  • Maintain and manage budget archive and financial data files for quick access and manipulation.
  • Prepare responses and communication to various internal and external agencies.
  • Participate in special projects and recommend workflow process improvements.
  • Support schools and administrative units in identifying data or information about financial issues.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new financial processes and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial and budget training programs.
  • May provide work coordination and training to less experienced staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in financial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, auditing, data management, or data analysis, with two years in financial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, or auditing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with research and/or sponsored programs in an educational environment.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Financial Manager (CFM), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification preferred.
