About the position

The Senior Financial Economist (Economic Expert) position at the Department of the Treasury involves conducting and managing economic research and analysis related to public regulatory policy issues affecting financial markets. The role requires expertise in international economic theories and methodologies to assess systemic risks to the U.S. banking system from global developments. The position is based in Washington, DC, and offers opportunities for telework as determined by agency policy.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, conduct, and manage the formulation, development, coordination, and implementation of analysis of global banking and economic developments.
  • Produce final research summarized in briefings, memos, presentations, and/or research papers using innovative methods of analysis.
  • Apply international economic theories and principles to develop statistical, financial, and empirical methodologies, tools, and techniques to identify systemic risks to the US banking system from foreign economies.
  • Maintain active partnerships with domestic and foreign bank supervisors, governmental officials, market analysts, research organizations, and other external parties.
  • Provide expert advice and keep senior OCC management informed on a wide variety of domestic and international economic, financial, and bank supervision and risk matters.
  • Conduct and review analysis of risks to the U.S. banking system from exposure to foreign economies, including examining country risks and developing stress scenarios.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and make connections across multiple sets of complex economic and financial information to identify and assess risk factors.

Requirements

  • A degree in Economics with at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in economics.
  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service, including leading international analysis activities and advising management on banking and international economic analysis projects.
