About the position

The Senior Financial Operations Analyst plays a crucial role within the Utilities and Energy Management department at The University of Texas at Austin. This position supports the Senior Associate Director for Finance and Administrative Services, focusing on budget preparation, financial reporting, and the development of pro forma financials for various projects and initiatives. The analyst will contribute to the financial health of the organization by conducting detailed financial analyses, preparing comprehensive reports, and collaborating with various departments to enhance operational efficiency and financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts for utility operations.
  • Communicate budget schedules and organize necessary information from division heads.
  • Provide financial reports to divisions to facilitate preparation of division budgets.
  • Support the compilation of budget narratives to document key funding or policy updates and financially impactful events.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for future reference and audit purposes.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis, including variance and trend analysis, and mid-year forecasts.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports and presentations for management, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and other organizations.
  • Analyze performance against the budget and provide actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor status of pending financial documents including invoices, contract encumbrances, budget transfers, etc.
  • Complete account reviews and assess and strengthen processes for annual account certification.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies.
  • Provide training to staff on financial systems and processes.
  • Collaborate with various UT Austin departments to gather and share financial data, providing financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision making.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving operational efficiency and financial performance.
  • Utilize project and program management skills and tools to streamline and improve financial processes and systems for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Attend meetings and perform other miscellaneous administrative and financial tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain contract, NDA, and project dashboards, ensuring data is current, complete, and accurate.
  • Complete Campus Utilities Outage Response System (COURS) training and participate in the rotation for leading utilities outage response communications.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in a related technical field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • An advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA).
  • Lean Six Sigma and/or other Project Management related certifications.
  • Experience with UT Austin policies and procedures.
