About the position

The Senior First Line Risk Manager Governance is a hybrid role responsible for supporting the General Bank by managing risks and controls across various business units. This position serves as a first line of defense risk professional, ensuring adherence to the company's risk appetite and corporate strategy. The role involves engaging with business units to facilitate risk management activities, providing advisory support, and acting as a communication channel between the Risk Management Department and business units. Additionally, the role may involve managing the work of others and mentoring associates.

Responsibilities

  • Develop centralized intake from second line and enterprise functions on policy/standard changes.
  • Coordinate with peer FRM business units to calibrate on responses and action needed.
  • Provide support to Business Unit aligned front line risk manager on reporting and governance materials.
  • Work with FRM leader and senior management to create risk management strategies ensuring key risks are appropriately managed.
  • Provide BU risk considerations for business/strategic plans.
  • Effectively challenge risk programs outputs, ensuring bank and regulatory alignment.
  • Support the development, implementation and maintenance of the organizations risk management framework, policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate risk assessments to evaluate and manage key risks across the organization.
  • Manage book of work to identify gaps and assess capacity, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and prioritization of risk management initiatives.
  • Develop test plans and methodologies for evaluating the effectiveness of control activities.
  • Execute control testing procedures in accordance with the established test plan, identifying and supporting remediation of control deficiencies.
  • Lead the tracking and resolution of issues across the organization, ensuring timely escalation and remediation.
  • Collaborate with BU and stakeholders to develop action plans and mitigation strategies to address root causes and prevent issue recurrence.
  • Monitor the status and effectiveness of issue remediation efforts, providing regular updates and reports to senior management.
  • Coordinate with other functions to ensure alignment with broader risk management and governance objectives.
  • Participate in regulatory inquiries, examinations, and audits in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Support regulatory submissions, response and reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and findings and assess their potential impact on the organization's risk profile and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop BU risk reports that provide a comprehensive view of risks impacting the BU.
  • Monitor BU risk and control performance and identify and summarize BU Top and Emerging trends and actions to address impacts.
  • Report key indicators and limits to ensure timely escalation of breaches as required by the Risk Appetite Framework.
  • Advise BU senior leadership in relevant risk governance meetings utilizing understanding of the BU operations, risks, controls and related laws and regulatory guidance.
  • Provide feedback and collaborate on relevant governance documents to support BU activities and manage risk.
  • Drive the implementation of program policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Ensure timely communication around current and emerging issues and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Financial Services and First Line Risk, Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Financial Services and First Line Risk, Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk.

  • Experience with development of governance materials and management reporting.
