About the position

The Senior Flight Test Engineer will support the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) Hypersonic weapons system program at NSWC Crane, focusing on flight test planning, coordination, and post-mission activities. This hybrid position requires in-office presence approximately three days a week and involves collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure successful test execution and alignment with program requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and administrative support to the CPS Test and Evaluation (T&E) functional branch.
  • Prepare test execution estimates for submission to the Financial and Contracts team.
  • Monitor progress and report weekly status updates to top program leadership.
  • Organize and participate in all technical and readiness reviews for Army and Navy flight tests, including technical working groups.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholder groups to determine and communicate test requirements.
  • Work closely with the Crane HWIL Team to communicate requirements and guide test plans and strategy, including Flight Qualification Testing.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings for Flight Test Coordination Working Groups.
  • Support range coordination and planning activities, including range safety working groups.
  • Assist in CPS Mission Architecture and Baseline Management meetings and activities.
  • Support the development of test documentation, plans, and procedures.
  • Assist in post-mission and test data analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 14 or more years' experience; Masters and 12 or more years' experience.
  • Understanding of DoD T&E process with 3+ years Operational Flight Test experience in the field.
  • Practical flight test engineering experience spanning range coordination, test planning, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of applicable requirements documents, such as the Capability Development Document (CDD) and Capability Production Document (CPD).
  • Basic knowledge of air vehicle software, including development and qualification processes, system redundancy, and fault/failure detection methods.
  • Ability to utilize simulation to predict test results and practice test maneuvers.
  • Ability to design a test, produce a test plan, and present it for approval through various reviews.
  • Knowledge of flight scheduling processes and procedures, including airspace and frequency allocation.
  • Knowledge of test instrumentation systems and data acquisition methods.
  • Ability to work cross-organization and engage with senior DoD personnel and industry executives.
  • Strong oral presentation and written communication skills.
