About the position

The Senior Fraud Data Analyst at Optum plays a crucial role in the Financial Consumer Payments Fraud team, acting as a subject matter expert. This position focuses on leading analytical efforts to enhance fraud detection and mitigation strategies, mentoring junior analysts, and collaborating with product teams to refine data strategies. The analyst will leverage their expertise in fraud trends and technologies to lead investigations, provide strategic insights, and report findings to senior management, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and implementation of fraud analytics models and rules
  • Lead and/or mentor a team of fraud data analysts, ensuring their professional development and performance
  • Oversee the analysis of transactional data to identify patterns of suspicious activity and the development of mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify fraud risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Identify opportunities to enhance fraud detection processes and implement improvements
  • Manage analytical projects, ensuring timely and accurate completion of deliverables
  • Develop and maintain key fraud analytics metrics
  • Develop and present detailed reports on fraud trends, investigation outcomes, and mitigation effectiveness to senior management
  • Assist in the selection and implementation of analytical tools and systems to improve fraud detection and investigation capabilities
  • Assist in the development of fraud analytics strategy
  • Stay informed about the latest fraud trends, technologies, and best practices in the fraud and payments industries

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, a majority with a focus on fraud detection, preferably in the financial services industry
  • 4+ years of experience using data analytics tools and software such as SQL, Python, R, SAS, or similar technologies
  • 4+ years performing key analytical projects, showcasing solid analytical and problem-solving skills to identify patterns and trends in large datasets
  • 2+ years of leadership experience or demonstrated ability to mentor and guide a team of analysts
