About the position

The Senior Functional Product Analyst at Highmark Health plays a crucial role in supporting various analytical aspects of the product management lifecycle, particularly within a sub-product scope that encompasses one or more business application components. This position requires the use of sound judgment and discretion to collaborate effectively with customers and business stakeholders. The analyst will work to understand moderate to complex customer and stakeholder needs, as well as business capability requirements. They will identify opportunities, create business cases, and perform advanced cost sheet analyses to support product strategy and evolve the product roadmap. In this role, the analyst will translate moderate to complex high-level business needs into detailed business requirements for new or modified business capabilities. They will conduct research and analyze moderately complex data to identify business problems and trends, assess business processes and rules, and recommend opportunities for process improvements or new capabilities. The analyst will also prioritize business capabilities in the product backlog and provide advanced root cause analysis along with corrective action plans. They will proactively collaborate with delivery partners to ensure the timely and quality delivery of customer needs, while also identifying, documenting, and resolving moderate to complex risks, defects, and issues. Additionally, the Senior Functional Product Analyst will analyze market trends for competitive insights and correlate these into business value statements to drive business platform recommendations. They will build organizational and platform knowledge in one or more disciplines to advance their professional career and will use their functional and organizational knowledge to mentor junior resources. A thorough understanding and advanced knowledge of the assigned business platform and its integration points are essential for analyzing and managing delivery across the product management lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with and provide strategic counsel to customers, business stakeholders, vendors, designers, IT delivery partners, and other team members to capture capability needs and drive quality business solutions.
  • Create and maintain deliverables such as business vision, business requirements, customer personas, stakeholder and/or journey maps, product capability roadmaps, product KPIs/metrics, and implementation/delivery plans.
  • Participate in the full product management delivery life cycle by actively engaging with business and IT delivery teams, leveraging advanced knowledge of modern product management delivery practices and methodologies such as Agile/Scrum and Kanban.
  • Lead various aspects of business analysis, business requirements definition and documentation, business user testing, and full product capability delivery to ensure minimal production defects are realized.
  • Effectively communicate with team members, customers, partners, and management, including assisting with or leading business and product requirement walkthroughs and sprint reviews.
  • Actively participate and contribute to sprint plans and reviews to ensure product capability development aligns with customer needs and defined business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance for required standards and obtain all necessary approvals throughout the product management and delivery project lifecycle.
  • Provide guidance to junior resources within the team and share best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field (or 6 years of related and progressive experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree).
  • 5 years of experience in a Business Analysis and/or Analyst role.
  • Advanced knowledge of and some prior experience in applying Agile Methodology and Agile Project Management.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities to identify stakeholder problems.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience collaborating with and influencing senior executives and decision makers.
  • Ability to explain complex information in simple terms through report writing.
  • Critical thinking and strategic thinking skills to perform big-picture thinking while understanding nuances and details.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in Lean/Six Sigma and/or Process Improvement.
  • 3 years of experience in the Health Insurance Industry.
  • 3 years of experience in the Healthcare Industry.
  • 1 year supporting product management and/or capability delivery.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Business Analysis Professional (IIBA) certification.
  • Human Centered Design (HCD) / Design Thinking certification.
