About the position

The Senior Geographic Information Systems Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering geospatial products and services. This role involves the configuration, testing, implementation, and maintenance of geospatial applications and databases, as well as leading geospatial projects and supervising staff. The position requires a strong understanding of spatial analysis and the ability to create maps and data visualizations to support various county functions.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and delivers geospatial products and services.
  • Participates in the design, development, configuration, testing, implementation, and maintenance of geospatial applications, web services, backend processes, and associated data layers and databases.
  • Assists in the modeling and development of geospatial databases and data structures.
  • Creates maps, presentations, reports, and data visualizations.
  • Analyzes moderate to complex spatial relationships and patterns.
  • Assists with application, database, and system administration functions.
  • Leads moderate to complex geospatial projects.
  • Serves as a technical resource for geospatial projects.
  • Assists in the preparation and evaluation of proposals for geospatial software, equipment, consultants, or services.
  • Supervises staff by planning, organizing, assigning, and evaluating the work of staff.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a Geographic Information Systems Analyst or four years as a Supervising Geographic Information Systems Technician, maintaining GIS database accuracy and quality.
  • A Bachelor's degree in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography, or a closely related field with equivalent coursework in GIS and at least three years of experience in GIS operations.
  • A Master's degree in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography, or a closely related field with equivalent coursework in GIS and one year of experience in GIS operations.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced geospatial analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Knowledge of programming languages relevant to GIS applications.
