About the position

The Senior GIS Analyst at ESA is responsible for contributing geospatial data management and analysis skills to various environmental protection and conservation projects across California. This remote position requires collaboration with interdisciplinary teams on projects related to wetlands, water quality, infrastructure planning, and climate change adaptation. The role involves data acquisition, spatial analysis, cartographic design, and the development of web maps and applications, with opportunities for leadership and mentoring of junior analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geospatial analyses for environmental assessments, feasibility studies, and impact analyses.
  • Acquire, curate, and manage geospatial data to support mobile data collection.
  • Develop high-quality cartographic and web-based products.
  • Serve as a project lead for tasks with significant geospatial components, collaborating with scientists, planners, and engineers.
  • Mentor and coach junior GIS analysts, supervising their work and guiding them through project tasks.
  • Contribute to ESA's marketing and business development by supporting proposals and participating in professional conferences.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-time professional experience in GIS analysis.
  • Proficiency in Esri ArcGIS Pro software and ArcGIS Online, including mobile data collection tools and web-based applications.
  • Strong knowledge of geospatial analysis methods and standards, data management, and cartography.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Python or R packages for workflow automation and data access using APIs.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator).
  • Experience analyzing and visualizing data in Tableau or PowerBI.
  • Knowledge of California natural resources and city/county datasets.
