About the position

Michael Baker International is looking for a Senior Graphic Designer to join their team in Pittsburgh (Moon Township) or Harrisburg, PA. This role involves creating visual communication assets for various projects, including transportation and urban planning. The designer will work in a hybrid environment, collaborating with team members while managing multiple projects and deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of brand systems and accessibility guidelines, along with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Consult with project manager, supervisor and/or client to evaluate individual project needs.
• Make recommendations based on client preferences, project needs, and budget.
• Develop inspiring and strategic layouts for print and digital marketing collateral from ideation to production.
• Conceptualize and design multi-channel pieces with a human-centric approach, including brochures and flyers, mailers, presentations, and social media.
• Understand brand systems, standards, and guidelines.
• Create or adapt to new brands quickly and generate effective marketing pieces.
• Prepare graphics and/or layout of material according to instructions of client or supervisor, reviewing materials for accuracy.
• Determine size and arrangement of material, select style and size of type, and create sample layouts based on branding guidelines.
• Study existing illustrations, photographs, and text to plan presentation of material, product, or service.
• Create finished layout or prepare instructions for workers who assemble and prepare final layouts.
• Review final layout and suggest improvements as needed, presenting final layout to supervisor or client for approval.
• Obtain cost estimates and coordinate with outside vendors such as printers or paper suppliers, as needed.
• Prepare final layout for printing or files to be provided for press, reviewing and approving proofs.
• Conduct thorough QA/QC of all materials before submission.
• Work collaboratively with existing designers, project managers, and team leads to build and maintain positive relationships with internal clients.
• Prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
• Provide guidance and support to less experienced graphic staff to help them complete their duties.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in graphic design or related field.
• 4-year degree in graphic design or related field.
• In-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (at minimum).
• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
• Ability to manage and make decisions for a multi-project workload on a regular basis.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Figma (or Adobe XD), Adobe Premiere/video editing, and 3D rendering.
• Experience in cartographic design, 3D rendering, illustrations, video and document accessibility (508 compliance) requirements.
• Knowledgeable of Architecture/Engineering industry and Michael Baker International's services.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards.
