About the position

As a Senior Group Manager in Technical Program Management at Expedia, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of Technical Program Managers (TPMs) who are responsible for managing programs of moderate complexity across a diverse portfolio. This position is integral to the success of Expedia's operations, particularly within the Travel Partnerships & Media arm, where you will focus on delivering exceptional customer and stakeholder experiences through innovative technical solutions, including Salesforce and other platforms. Your leadership will be crucial in mentoring the next generation of program managers, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, and driving teams to achieve their highest potential. In this role, you will report directly to the Director of Program Management within the Technical Program Management team. Your responsibilities will encompass line management and development of TPMs, ensuring their professional growth through performance management, talent management, and regular performance connects. You will oversee the success of projects within your portfolio, guiding Program Managers (PgMs) in driving new feature development and change requests through the product life cycle, utilizing validated agile methodologies to deliver incremental value. You will be expected to build strong relationships across various departments, understanding the diverse roles and business objectives of partner groups, while also supporting your team in aligning strategic initiatives with operational priorities. Your proactive approach will be essential in managing escalations, setting clear expectations for resolution, and ensuring that your teams have the necessary visibility and resources to tackle pressing challenges. Additionally, you will coordinate resource allocation to ensure critical programs are adequately supported by TPMs, collaborating with Product & Tech leadership and other stakeholders to prioritize work effectively. Staying current on industry trends and best practices in software development and agile engineering will be vital, as you will coach others and manage governance work to enable organizational scaling. Your ability to simplify complexity and communicate effectively will be key in driving the vision and strategy for your team and the broader organization.

Responsibilities

  • Line management and development of Technical Program Managers, including team development and talent management.
  • Overall responsibility for the success of projects in the portfolio, guiding PgMs in driving new feature and change request development.
  • Build relationships across departments to understand diverse partner groups' roles and business objectives.
  • Support team engagement with Product cohorts to align on strategic initiative priorities.
  • Manage escalations and set clarity in expectations for resolution, ensuring visibility and resources for teams.
  • Coordinate resource allocation to ensure critical programs have proper TPM coverage.
  • Develop frameworks to prioritize work across multiple business groups against capacity.
  • Stay current on industry trends and serve as an expert on the software development lifecycle and agile practices.
  • Manage or delegate priority Prod & Tech Governance work to enable organizational scaling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in business, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of Technical Program Management experience.
  • 3+ years of People Management experience.
  • Experience with developing integration between CRM and other applications and implementing CRM features/custom apps.
  • Salesforce Certifications highly preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce.com and understanding of its technical aspects.
  • Strong proficiency in managing Jira, including dashboards and roadmaps.
  • Effective communication and storytelling skills to influence and build trust with teams and partners.
