About the position

The Senior Components Engineer at Collins Aerospace will play a crucial role in the Mission Systems Hardware Engineering Department, focusing on the mechanical and electrical design of circuit cards and housings for communications systems. This position involves ensuring the implementation of Parts Control and Standardization Plans, reviewing component datasheets, generating procurement documentation, and providing obsolescence support. The engineer will also be responsible for financial reporting and may lead investigations on obsolescence issues, making it essential to have a strong background in components engineering and hardware design.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a team member focusing on mechanical and electrical design of circuit cards and housings for communications systems.
  • Ensure implementation and execution of Parts Control and Standardization Plans.
  • Review datasheets and compare technical characteristics of COTS components, providing recommendations for alternate part replacements.
  • Generate piece part documentation for procurement purposes and submit required program reports.
  • Develop and implement a Parts Control Plan.
  • Provide Parts Obsolescence support, leading investigations on obsolescence issues and participating in trade studies.
  • Drive the technical obsolescence mitigation process for programs, keeping detailed action logs updated.
  • Oversee tasks of some team members as needed.
  • Handle financial reporting responsibilities, including earned value inputs and workload planning.

Requirements

  • Background in components engineering, including guiding component selection.
  • Broad based Mechanical / Electrical Hardware engineering background.
  • Typically requires a degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree with 3 years of experience, or 9 years of relevant experience in absence of a degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of Tin Whisker Risk and Gold Embrittlement Risk, with experience in mitigation plans for military applications.
  • Experience analyzing alerts from GIDEP.org and determining technical impact to programs.
  • Working knowledge of Windchill Product Data Manager.
  • Familiarity with Valor, Mentor Graphics, Cadence, Allegro, ADS tools.
  • Experience with Raytheon EDM Parts Library Tools.
