About the position

Pure Storage is seeking a full-time Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Hardware Development Team. This role involves working cross-functionally with various teams to design, validate, and analyze failures in Pure's storage subsystems. The engineer will be responsible for all phases of product development, from design to qualification, and will play a key role in enhancing product robustness and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and co-develop HW design and qualification projects
  • Participate in all phases of the product development cycle including design, documentation, eDVT, FA, and support for custom HW design
  • Define, implement and automate HW validation and qualification tests
  • Write Functional Specifications (HW/System level), test plans and test reports
  • Perform schematic capture of designs
  • Create routing rules and run analysis of complex layouts
  • Utilize HW design tools (i.e. Schematic Capture, PCB Layout, Signal Integrity, Power Integrity)
  • Analyze and review device and system-level power, VR selection, cooling and electrical functionality
  • Set up and run system stress tests including PTU, Mprime, Iometer, LinPack, etc.
  • Perform failure and root cause analysis activities in support of system hardening efforts and customer escalations
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers to create a culture of world-class engineering

Requirements

  • A Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, with either: Masters with 7+ years of professional work experience or Bachelors with 10+ years of professional work experience
  • Experience working at hyperscale or enterprise hardware companies preferred (Storage, Server, Networking)
  • Strong knowledge of hardware design, x86 architectures and interfaces
  • Ability to qualify x86 hardware at the electrical, SI, protocol and functional levels
  • Strong knowledge of selecting x86 subcomponents: SSD's, AC/DC Power supplies, and discrete power circuits
  • Ability to architect or assist in architecting complex systems, involving compute, storage and I/O
  • Experience planning, implementing and automating HW qualification processes
  • Strong experience with scripting languages (i.e. Python, BASH, etc.) and test development
  • Understand Verilog and CPLD design background
  • Detail oriented, analytical, process savvy, and customer focused yet flexible and adaptable to business needs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with High Speed Oscilloscopes, bus analyzers
  • Development history and understanding with Ethernet (1Gbps to 400Gbps+)
  • Experience working in and leading cross-functional teams
