About the position

Western Digital is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to join the Security team, where you will collaborate closely with Security Engineers and Architects to produce high-quality security hardware. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing the hardware threat surfaces and vectors for the Security Enclave and System on Chips (SOCs). Your primary task will be to define and implement mitigation plans for identified threats, as well as participate in the definition of Hardware Security Policies for embedded devices related to data storage. You will evaluate emerging security hardware technologies and incorporate them into the product roadmap. As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, you will architect, design, and prototype a product-agnostic platform with a Secure Enclave capable of enabling next-generation security solutions. This will involve a strong emphasis on the Security Processor and scalable secure interfaces. You will also be responsible for implementing the latest security functionalities, including Cryptographic Algorithms, Entropy Generation, Secret Management, Access Control Management, and Integrity and Authenticity enforcement. Your role will include participating in code, verification plan, and validation plan reviews of RTL, ROM, and Firmware. You will define a framework for the hardware development process to detect and prevent potential security issues during early development. Additionally, you will architect and design a hardware vulnerability test bed for side-channel attacks. You will represent security in cross-functional hardware architecture, design, and review meetings, providing guidance to platform hardware engineers for the seamless integration of the Secure Enclave. You will also engage in research group discussions related to security advances in academia and will be responsible for researching secure and performant implementations of Cryptographic Algorithms using advanced modeling frameworks. Mentoring engineers in Secure Enclave RTL development, verification, and integration will also be a key part of your responsibilities.
