About the position

The Senior Hardware Design Engineer at Google will be responsible for owning strategy and driving execution across a diverse portfolio of projects, including network switches and machine learning pods. This role involves interfacing with various stakeholders to define and crystallize Design for Operations requirements, influencing new platform architectures through technical insights, and mentoring a team in platform architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the strategic roadmap with stakeholders from data center operations, supply chain, and manufacturing to capture the design for operations requirements.
  • Identify critical user journeys that capture operational requirements (e.g., serviceability, automation, safety, repair cost, and deployment time).
  • Integrate design for operations into the architecture of platforms hardware and software and investigate alternative architectures and roadmaps to enable an optimized system design.
  • Engage in the development of the system architecture, including design intent, functional trade-offs, and deployment risks.
  • Align organizational boundaries within the Engineering, Network, Power, Compliance, Safety, Supply Chain and Data Center Operations team to leverage goals and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a Product Design for Data center platforms technical environment, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Experience in manufacturing, hardware validation, and quality control.
  • Experience in hardware platform development managing platforms from concept to production.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience as a systems architect for Machine Learning (ML) systems.
  • Experience in representing stakeholders during executive-level planning and prioritization exercises.
  • Excellent leadership skills to define strategy, drive execution and resolve conflict.
  • Excellent communication and multi-tasking skills in a fluid environment.
