About the position

The Senior Hardware Development Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and operations of a new segment of specialized servers for AWS. This role involves collaborating with various teams to address complex hardware issues, ensuring high-quality service for customers, and driving improvements in server design and functionality. The engineer will lead cross-functional investigations and work closely with internal and external customers to meet technical needs and business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the design and development of a new segment of specialized servers.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand their technical needs and business goals.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  • Oversee the fleet of servers developed, monitoring their quality and customer requirements post-launch.
  • Interface with internal and external customers to facilitate system development based on server design.
  • Learn operational challenges to improve customer experience and develop systems for future designs.
  • Work directly with vendors and ODM/JDM design teams for product development and manufacturing.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with complex server, storage, or network server designs.
  • 3+ years of advanced support experience managing customer escalations in a large-scale production environment.
  • 3+ years of development experience in hardware/firmware, with proven ability to debug PCIe, memory, or storage subsystems.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage technology developers to apply emerging technologies to server designs.
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and operational repair plans.
  • Ability to physically test hardware in lab or customer environments.
  • Strong customer focus with a demonstrated ability to improve products on behalf of the customer.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues creatively and effectively.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets for trends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters/PhD Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in hardware and firmware integration issues.
  • Deep technical background with Memory, Storage, and PCIe debugging.
  • Experience leading the development of multiple complete servers.
  • Experience implementing monitoring and alerting systems in production environments.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams through investigations and corrective actions on integrated system problems.
  • BIOS/BMC/FW debugging experience.
