About the position

The Senior Hardware Development Engineer at Whirlpool Corporation is responsible for designing and validating embedded hardware applications for kitchen and laundry appliances. This role involves executing engineering tasks as part of cross-functional teams, focusing on the design, analysis, and testing of electronic controls across various operational environments and markets. The position requires collaboration with system architects and suppliers to ensure project specifications are met and to enhance product reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate embedded hardware applications.
  • Design hardware solutions to drive system optimization and improve module component design.
  • Interact with system architects/integrators to review and consolidate application requirements.
  • Select and integrate hardware modules to build embedded hardware applications.
  • Conduct electronic/electrical circuit modeling/simulation and apply PSPICE knowledge.
  • Perform PCB layout design, applied simulation, and component selection for hardware execution.
  • Assemble prototypes, bring them up, debug, and verify functionality.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
  • Participate in technical design reviews to ensure project deliveries meet specifications.
  • Contribute to change management processes for project adjustments.
  • Complete project deliveries at the design completion milestone to satisfy system-level requirements.
  • Follow Whirlpool development processes, systems, and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of experience with industry-standard hardware and PCB layout development tools (e.g., PADS, Altium Designer, OrCAD).
  • 5+ years of experience analyzing and resolving system hardware issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Human Machine Interface technologies.
  • Knowledge of displays, touch panels, and advanced sensing technologies.
  • Ability to work with global and regional groups, positively influencing the organization.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma methodology and EMC & EMI theory.
  • Experience designing high-volume products with contract manufacturers.
  • Mixed-signal and embedded board-level design experience.
  • Hands-on experience building prototype electronics, including assembly, board bring-up, debugging, and functional verification.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor theory and manufacturing, digital design, analog design, power supplies, and transmission lines.
