About the position

The Senior Engineer, Electrical at Badger Meter plays a crucial role in supporting the company's growth and alignment across various product families. This position focuses on the hardware-specific aspects of electrical and electronic product development, as well as product performance testing. The Senior Engineer will be involved in new product development projects and will also maintain existing products within the production environment, gaining valuable product knowledge along the way. This individual contributor role is designed for those who thrive on autonomy and creativity, providing the opportunity to collaborate closely with engineering leaders. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and motivation. In this role, the Senior Engineer will act as the project technical lead, responsible for completing the design of the hardware PCB/component circuit portion of projects and providing ongoing support for component issues. They will conduct product and prototype design verification tests to ensure compliance with applicable standards such as UL/CSA, CE/EMC, and FM, as well as product specifications. The engineer will finalize production implementations, including test methodologies and the specification/creation of production validation fixtures and procedures. Additionally, they will be responsible for completing release documentation for the final hardware portions of products, creating product work instructions and process documents, and initiating and implementing engineering change requests. The Senior Engineer will also provide advanced product hardware support for sustaining engineering activities across various departments and participate in multi-disciplinary project teams to define project schedules, budgets, and risks. Mentoring junior engineers will also be a key responsibility of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Act as project technical lead and complete the design of hardware PCB/component circuit portions of projects.
  • Conduct product/prototype design verification tests to ensure compliance with applicable standards and product specifications.
  • Finalize production implementations, including test methodology and specification/creation of production validation fixtures and procedures.
  • Complete release documentation for final hardware portions of the product.
  • Create product work instructions/process documents and initiate and implement engineering change requests.
  • Provide advanced product hardware support for sustaining engineering activities to other departments.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams, defining project schedules, budgets, and risks.
  • Mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience in electrical/electronic engineering.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Thorough understanding of end-to-end product-based electronics development, focusing on PCB hardware design and integration into stand-alone circuits and embedded systems.
  • Thorough design knowledge and experience in both analog and digital circuit design.
  • Basic knowledge of sensing technology and its interfacing (magnetic, optics, etc.) is helpful.
  • Solid understanding of working with embedded 8-bit/16-bit/ARM microcontrollers or microprocessors.
  • Thorough knowledge of Altium schematic capture and PCB layout software.
  • Extensive experience with test instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and environmental chambers for troubleshooting PCBs and electronic products.

  • Thorough experience debugging and prototyping embedded systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one major product technology area or skill discipline.
