About the position

The Senior Hardware Engineer at Komatsu America Corp. is responsible for designing advanced electronic sensors and control hardware specifically for hazardous underground mining environments. This role involves technical ownership of hardware design projects, leading design reviews, and ensuring product readiness for manufacturing. The engineer will collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team to innovate and validate hardware solutions, contributing to the safety and productivity of various industries supported by Komatsu.

Responsibilities

  • Design world-class Intrinsic safe electronic sensors and control hardware for use in hazardous underground mining environments.
  • Engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to formulate and design innovative products.
  • Technical ownership for the hardware design projects.
  • Lead architecture and design reviews with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Lead various aspects of electronic product readiness including manufacturability.
  • Perform testing and validation of hardware prior to their release.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical, Electronics, Computer engineering or relevant field.
  • 15 years' experience in Electronics hardware design in areas such as Intrinsic Safety IEC60079-11 electronic hardware development, IECEx/ATEX, MSHA certifications, FPGA design, low power microprocessor-based controllers, high speed communication systems, programmable logic design, digital circuit design, low power analogue circuit design, optical/imaging components and systems, RF components and systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the design of autonomous sensors such as lidars, radars, cameras is a plus.
  • Familiarity with safety critical system design and industry standards is a plus.
  • Knowledge of common machine control sensors, actuators, and other typical control devices.
