About the position

The Senior Hardware Engineer will be part of the Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team, which is responsible for powering Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure. This role focuses on designing and delivering custom hardware solutions that support Microsoft's cloud services, ensuring high quality, efficiency, and timely deployment. The engineer will collaborate across various teams to improve hardware manufacturing processes and contribute to the overall mission of delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design of hardware solutions.
  • Work with internal and external partners to define and specify hardware solution requirements.
  • Perform and review schematic entry in Cadence tools.
  • Review and guide PCB layout for high-speed and high/low power designs.
  • Support BOM creation and manufacturing requirements.
  • Create bring-up, test, and validation plans to ensure robust hardware.
  • Execute bring-up tests and debug hardware reports.
  • Collaborate with partners to ensure systems meet quality, reliability, and service level requirements for a cloud environment.
  • Collaborate with partner ODM/OEM companies.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of technical engineering experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of technical engineering experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience, or a Doctorate degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years' experience with Cadence EDA tools.
  • 5+ years' experience designing PCB and PCBA for Cloud Servers.
  • Fundamental knowledge of hardware design principles: Signal Integrity, Power Design, Computer Architecture.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years' experience developing hardware component and system level specifications.
  • Experience with high-speed and high-power design.
  • Experience developing hardware verification and functional test plans.
  • Experience working across disciplines and organizations to resolve complex issues.
  • Experience with high volume hardware production.
  • Experience with cost/time/risk tradeoff analysis relative to time to market.
  • Experience with bleeding edge hardware design.
