About the position

This position involves working on the eVinci and AstroVinci microreactor programs at Westinghouse, focusing on the design and analysis of security systems, remote operations, and safeguard protection systems. The role emphasizes integrating safeguards and security into the early design stages and ensuring compliance with nuclear regulations while developing strategies to prevent the misuse of nuclear materials.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform design, analysis, and testing programs related to security, remote-enabling systems, and safeguard systems.
• Integrate safeguards-by-design (SBD) and security by design (SeBD) into early-stage design and operational thinking for the eVinci and AstroVinci microreactors.
• Develop and evaluate safeguards and non-proliferation strategies to ensure nuclear material is not diverted and that plants are not misused.
• Familiarity with NRC or DOE regulations for nuclear design and accident analyses.
• Perform engineering design calculations, specifications, process diagrams, and procedures for advanced reactor designs.
• Develop test plans to validate models and parameters.
• Identify and define technical issues and challenges, directing efforts to successful resolution.
• Provide technical guidance and collaborate with other personnel, including partners and subcontractors.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in an Engineering field.
• Advanced Degree preferable or a minimum of 5 years of experience required.
• Ability to apply existing and new safeguards and non-proliferation methodologies to novel applications.
• Familiarity with approaches to enhance proliferation resistance of the nuclear fuel cycle.
• Experience in a challenging or dynamic environment of applied R&D, startup, or new product development.
