The Senior Hardware Test Automation Engineer at Leonardo DRS is a pivotal role within the Airborne and Intelligence Systems business, which is recognized as a global leader in defense and intelligence products. This position involves a comprehensive engagement in the design and development of test programs aimed at measuring the functionality and integrity of various products and services. The engineer will be responsible for writing detailed test procedures and protocols that assess product reliability, ensuring that all products meet established performance standards and specifications. Debugging test hardware and software is also a critical aspect of this role, requiring a keen analytical mindset and technical expertise. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Senior Hardware Test Automation Engineer will lead a group of engineers in executing technical activities, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. This includes designing, developing, analyzing, documenting, and supporting the testing of products, systems, or subsystems. The engineer may utilize computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software to perform assignments effectively. A significant part of the role involves reviewing customer specifications and requirements, developing designs that align with these needs while considering cost as a key design variable. The engineer will also provide budget, cost, and schedule input for design assignments, specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services, and drive program design to meet cost and manufacturability requirements. Developing prototypes to mitigate key development risks is another essential responsibility. Clear communication, both written and oral, with other company personnel and customers is vital, as is participation in the preparation of proposals. The engineer will provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel, lead and direct the work of others, and actively support the mission, values, and culture of the organization. Attendance at relevant engineering, customer, or business meetings is also expected, along with mentoring less-experienced engineers.
