The position supports the design, deployment, and operations of a large-scale global Oracle cloud computing environment, specifically focusing on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The role is primarily centered around the development and deployment of physical rack layouts, cabling design, and the testing and qualification of physical components deployed by Network Engineering. Candidates are sought who possess a diverse background in various areas of network hardware engineering, including cabling, low-level device performance, and thermal management. Given that OCI operates as a cloud-based network with a global footprint, the role involves supporting hundreds of thousands of network devices that connect millions of servers over a combination of dedicated backbone infrastructure and the Internet. The position requires collaboration across teams within the same organization and outside of it, with a technical responsibility for complex projects. This includes managing project requirements, specifications, and documentation. The engineer will work closely with supporting service teams to ensure that solutions are adequately supported by monitoring and automation systems. They will also serve as the point of contact for systematically resolving complex network design issues, while maintaining an understanding of current and future cabling and optical standards, cable plant design, rack structural calculations, and best practices for rack integration. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with vendor engineering and account managers to address current business or operational issues and participating in the adoption of new vendor hardware. Active communication with product teams is essential, as is participation in coordinated communication with networking leadership and the PMO to assess gaps, solutions, and needs.
